When the starting signal sounds in Sisimiut March 23, at the Arctic Circle Race 2012, the race will feature several exciting international names. Among the women, there are especially two names from the outside who strike the eyes.
Olympic hopes
From the other side of the world comes 23-year-old bi-athlete Sarah Murphy, who attended the New Zealand Winter Olympics 2010 (cross country skiing and shooting), and aims to be among the top 10 for the Winter Olympics in 2014.
Now she comes to Greenland - without guns - and with a good chance to be in the medal row after the 160 kilometers on skis.
Exciting field
Another interesting competitor for medals, will be the German tri-athlete Annett Finger (born 1981), with several Ironman contest's behind her.
Greenland's own young hope Niviaq Chemnitz Berthelsen, are not yet registered for the race. She prepares in Tromso / Norway, and has participated in ACR several times. Niviaq was a superb winner among the women at last year's ACR.
ACR 2012
So far 71 registered for this the year's race, including 55 participants from abroad and there are still places available.
- Greenland's own runner's tend to register late. It is early March before we know the final number of participants, says Peter Evaldsen from ACR's race office.
