NUNAMINERALS UPGRADES IN HUNT FOR GOLD AND BASE METALS

With the petrolium and mineral industries comes the need for new qualifications. Something that educators are working hard to deliver to pupils at the new Greenland School of Minerals and Petrolium in Sisimiut.
   

NunaMinerals upgrades in hunt for gold and base metals

NunaMinerals has hired Peter van Maastrigt, aged 54, as chief geologist. He has a master's degree in geology, and his main field of expertise is gold and base metals exploration.
 
Hereby upgrades NunaMinerals their continued efforts in the search of the precious metals in Greenland.

- There is only one active mine currently - it's Nalunaq Gold Mine owned by Angel Mining producing gold - a occurrence we found in 1992, says director of NunaMinerals Ole Christiansen.
 
- But even if there is only one active mine, there are three other mining projects authorized to mine production, beside Nalunaq, he explains.
 
- The olivine mine owned by the Swedish state via Minelco, the Black Angel owned by Angel Mining and Malmbjerg Molybdenum owned by Quadra Mining.
 
In addition, five other mining projects are relatively close to completing their feasibility studies:
a Isua iron project (London Mining)
b Rubin Project by qeqertarsuatsiaaq (Trune North Gems)
c Lemon Fjord zinc project (Ironbark Zinc Ltd)
d TaNbREEZ project (TaNbREEZ Mining) - tantalum, niobium, rare earths, zirconium
e Kvanefjeld uranium-REE-zinc project (Greenland Minerals & Energy)
  
- In all, 30 companies has surveys and projects underway around Greenland in 2012. In NunaMinerals, we focus on gold, copper-gold, zinc and REE projects(Rare Earths/edt) both at Nuuk, Nanortalik, Maniitsoq and in Inglefield Land, says Ole Christiansen.

Peter van Maastrig has served as senior geologist specializing in exploration activities in several companies, including IAM Gold (Canada), Pasminco Exploration (Australia) and Gold Fields (South Africa).
